The First Circuit is one of the 5 state appellate courts created by the Louisiana Constitution

§9. Courts of Appeal; Circuits and Districts

  Section 9. Each circuit shall be divided into at least three districts, and at least one judge shall be elected from each.  The circuits and districts and the number of judges as elected in each circuit on the effective date of this constitution are retained, subject to change by law enacted by two-thirds of the elected members of each house of the legislature.

1. JOB POSTING: Legal Secretary

The Louisiana First Circuit Court of Appeal seeks an experienced individual for the position of Central Staff Legal Secretary.  The position requires support to attorneys engaged in the processing of writs and appeals for the Court and/or in the preparation of cases and legal memoranda.  The candidate must have excellent organizational and computer skills (particularly Microsoft Office Word).  The candidate must also have good interpersonal and secretarial skills.  Attention to detail and the ability to maintain confidentiality are essential.  Knowledge of legal terminology, court system practices, forms and procedures, and strong editing skills are required.  The ideal candidate will have experience with Westlaw.  Starting salary is mid to high $30s, or commensurate with experience.

2.  FILING FEE INCREASE:

Pursuant to Louisiana Revised Statutes, Title 13, Sections 10.3, 35, and 86, the Court collects certain fees for filings, the Judges’ Supplemental Compensation Fund, and the Louisiana Judicial College.  Effective July 1, 2025, the following new fee amounts are in effect:   

 

  • For filing a civil record of appeal …………….. $332.00
  • For filing a civil writ application ……………... $182.00
  • For filing a rehearing application ................ $107.50
